Denyer does an Imus
After a Logies bash the heavily hung-over Grant Denyer said on air that he felt like he'd "had sex with a black man". Not surprisingly the squitterati have gone spacko, with one fluffy wuffy arguing that that "the comments reflected a popular myth about the size of black men's penises, and were both sexist and racist".
Denyer's comment was actually a joke; not meant to be taken seriously, which is why it's silly to do so. But the condemnation is meant to be taken seriously, so ...
Why are Denyer's "comments" sexist? Is the problem here that women weren't included? Would it have been more acceptable if Denyer had said, "I feel like I've just had sex with a black man ... or woman"?
And why is it racist to imply that black men have big dicks? Knowing how much men the world over prize dick-bigness, it could easily be seen as a compliment ...
It seems that condemnation of Denyer rests on the subtextual "mythiness" of his joke. So, is there evidence that it is a myth? Is reliable comparative dick size data available? Does comparative dick size data even exist? If it does, what's the context? Was this comparative dick size data selectively collected by racists? Has this comparative dick size data been doctored by trendy post-modernists?
Knowing how long the history wars have raged, the dickstory wars could go on even, er, longer.
That said, we must consider the possibility that, heaven forfend, it might not be a myth. What if black men do have bigger dicks than caucasians? Then isn't implying that they don't have bigger dicks than caucasians and possibly even have smaller dicks -- which is clearly the politically correct line here -- even more racist; a kind of white supremacist phallocentrism?
Which all goes to show how easy it is to accuse someone of racism and sexism -- particularly if you're a humourless nitpicker.
My suggestion to those offended: If you are outraged about Denyer's gag, then you should be apoplectic over a certain Canadian fillum from a while ago. Hop to it fluffy wuffies, you've got bigger fish to fry dicks to dye!
