Earlier, I posted about how our ivory-tinkling misfit's story had an uncanny resemblance to events depicted in two films (Shine and Ladies in Lavender).
Here's another article referring to the similarity to the second film. The title somewhat cynically dismisses the Piano Man's filmic potential by saying that the film of his story has been done already.
I have to concur here. At first I thought this guy was a genius in pulling off such an intricate, emotionally potent hoax. However, by plagiarising said film (and by all accounts a crap one at that) he blew it from the start.
Also, since nothing's changed in his condition over the last few days he's allowed the spotlight to move off him. Hacks, running with the pack as they always do, will soon forget him completely. And all that sterling effort will have come to nought. (If he'd had an epileptic fit or something he might have kept the excitement going. But he didn't. Bad move.)
Not insignificantly, I came to the above story by way of the Google search "Piano+man+washed+up+mystery".
How appropriate - and how sad - is that? Washed up before he became mythologised in a film.
Poor bastard.
Still, it was a top effort, mate!
